When students head back to school in South Florida, they’ll get supplies they don't typically see.
The state will deliver mosquito repellent to school districts, colleges and universities in hopes of stopping the spread of Zika.
Gov. Rick Scott directed the departments of health and education to take action Monday following a new case of Zika that infected a person in Palm Beach County.
Along with bug spray, schools in Miami-Dade, Broward, Martin, Monroe and Palm Beach counties will get education materials and a Zika teacher toolkit with activities that can be used in class.
The case is Palm Beach County’s first and perhaps the seventeenth instance of Zika being spread by mosquito in Florida.
The infected individual recently travel to Miami-Dade County, where the department of health believes the only active transmissions are happening.
