Amendment 4

The deputy secretary of state has asked election supervisors in Hillsborough, Orange, Osceola and Palm Beach counties to gather roughly 36,000 signatures to review.

Floridians Protecting Freedom reports picking up $700,000 from Planned Parenthood of South, East and North Florida during the week of Aug. 16-23 for the effort to promote Amendment 4.

The 6-1 ruling rejects arguments from the committee promoting the measure after months of legal wrangling. The revised financial statement will appear on the ballot with Amendment 4.

The total raised during the latest reporting period included $5 million from Lantana resident Marsha Laufer and $2 million from the D.C.-based Open Society Action Fund.

Floridians Protecting Freedom contends the House speaker and Senate president did not have the authority to direct a panel to revise the statement after a circuit judge rejected an earlier version.
