State ALF Regulator Takes Industry Job

A top state official overseeing Florida’s assisted living facilities has a new job in that industry.

Shaddrick A. Haston is leaving the Agency for Health Care Administration, where he managed the Assisted Living Unit, for a job as the new chief executive officer of the Florida Assisted Living Association, the Tampa Bay Timesreports.

AHCA’s Assisted Living Unit is responsible for licensing Florida’s assisted living facilities, adult day care centers, and adult family care homes.  FALA has fought legislation aimed at increasing regulations at state-licensed homes, while closing loopholes that allowed little or no scrutiny of unlicensed homes, the Times reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
