Rose Radiology Centers Inc. has agreed to pay $8.71 million to resolve claims of false billing and kickbacks revealed in two whistleblower lawsuits, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Rose Radiology, which has several locations in the Tampa Bay area, was accused of submitting false claims to federal health care programs, and not observing a safety requirement that says physicians have to supervise the administration of contrast dye for an MRI.

The settlement also includes accusations that Rose Radiology wrongly billed for procedures referred by chiropractors.
