Instead of helping to plan his elegant July wedding at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Eduardo Perez de Morales is being held in the Broward County jail on charges of Medicare fraud, the Miami Herald reports.
The 26-year-old Miami businessman is accused of conspiring with his fugitive brother in a money-laundering scheme that stole $238 million from Medicare and funneled it through an offshore company, Caribbean Transfers. The prospective groom was the "bagman," the Herald reports.
Given that the brother fled the U.S. before arrest, Eduardo Perez was also a flight risk -- too much to risk letting him out of jail for his wedding. the Herald reports.
