Broward Health Chairman Resigns

The embattled chairman of the Broward Health Board of Directors resigned Thursday, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

David Di Pietro cited Gov. Rick Scott’s attempts to suspend him from the public hospital system board as the reason why he was stepping down, according to the Sun Sentinel.

The governor, who had appointed the prominent Republican, said he was suspending Di Pietro and another board member for allegedly obstructing a state inspector general investigation into the hospital system.

Di Pietro challenged the suspension in court, and earlier this week a judge agreed and ordered that Di Pietro to be reinstated. Scott, through the state Attorney General's office, appealed that decision.

The latest probe comes after Broward Health settled a massive federal whistleblower claim for Medicare and Medicaid fraud, and following the suicide death of the Broward Health CEO, Dr. Nabil El Sanadi.
