Many Medicare Advantage Plans, including Coral Gables-based Simply Healthcare, have begun looking for ways to cut costs, and for some that means directly dropping doctors from their networks, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. In Florida, where 38 percent of beneficiaries have Advantage plans, this leads to confusion and stress, since they are locked in until open-enrollment season in November.
According to the Sun Sentinel, federal legislation has been filed to prevent Advantage plans from dropping or altering their network mid-year. It was introduced when mega-insurer United Healthcare last year dropped thousands of doctors and hospitals from its networks nationwide.
