The independently owned Bert Fish Medical Center is back on the market after a second try at acquisition fell through, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Negotiations with potential buyer Community Health Systems broke down last week, when the company said it needed to focus on its recent acquisition of Health Management Associates, a for-profit chain with 71 hospitals. HMA had bid for Bert Fish prior to its own sale, but had not completed the sale, the Sentinel reports.
Halifax Health, which made an unsuccessful bid last summer, and Florida Hospital, which failed to buy Bert Fish in 2010, both say they now are interested in purchasing the 112-bed hospital in New Smyrna Beach, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
