Navigators Trying to Find Hispanics

Under prodding from the White House, navigators are stepping up efforts to find and enroll Hispanics under the Affordable Care Act, since so many of them qualify for assistance and so few have actually enrolled.

According to federal data issued this week, more than three-quarters of Hispanics nationally qualify for help, asKaiser Health News reports. The percentage is lower in Florida and Texas, states that have not taken federal funds to expand coverage for those who are under the poverty level.

Almost 1 million Hispanics in Florida are uninsured, according to the Miami Herald (paywall alert).

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
