The multimillionaire leader of a Miami health equity firm will serve as finance co-chair of Gov. Rick Scott’s re-election campaign, according to the Associated Press. Miguel “Mike” Fernandez, chairman of MBF Healthcare Partners investment group, is a significant contributor to Republican candidates, including spending at least $1 million for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign. Last year, MBF considered, but eventually backed out, of an acquisition of the troubled St. Petersburg insurer Universal Health Care. Its other assets include Navarro Discount Pharmacy and Simply Healthcare Plans, a managed care company.
