Miami Judge Says DCF Case ‘Troubling’

Apr 25, 2014

A Miami judge is criticizing child welfare administrators who wanted to leave three children at a home where their cousin died days earlier, according to the Herald/Times Tallahassee Bureau.

The Department of Children & Families asked Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Rosa Figarola to leave three children, ages 3, 2 and 1, in the house where a 3-year-old cousin lived before being taken to Homestead Hospital unresponsive, with bruises and bite marks. Figarola refused the request and ordered the children to be placed in foster care, the bureau reports.

She followed up with an email to agency administrators, calling DCF’s handling of the case “troubling,” the bureau reports.
