Starting April 1, applicants for jobs with Orlando Health will be required to pass a urine test that screens for a by-product of nicotine as well as for drugs, the Orlando Sentinel Reports.
A number of other hospital systems in the state have already adopted the testing policy, which supposedly can tell the difference between a smoker and someone who has just been exposed to second-hand smoke.
Screening out smokers has become so controversial that some states have passed “smokers’ rights” bills, but not Florida.
