Lawmakers think this could be the year they actually pass a ban on texting-while-driving, the Lakeland Ledger reports.
Yesterday’s two-hour hearing is more than lawmakers have given similar proposals in previous sessions, the Ledger reports.
While the Florida Department of Highway Safety says texting can only be blamed for one death in 2012, the agency admits the data are “incomplete,” according to the Ledger. Meanwhile, experts presented other statistics on the dangers of distracted driving.
The House transportation panel could weigh in on the measure as early as next week.
