A bill aimed at forestalling school shootings by teaching adults to detect disturbed teenagers and intervene before it's too late has passed the Senate Children, Families and Elder Affairs Committee, as Florida Current reports.
The bill by Sen. Eleanor Sobel, D-Hollywood, instructs the Department of Children and Families to develop a statewide training program similar to one already operating in Miami-Dade schools. The original idea of mental health first aid started in Australia.
