Medicaid Expansion Vote Needs a Do-Over

Florida House Republicans blew it when they refused to accept $51 billion in federal funds to provide health coverage to more than 1 million of the lowest-income Floridians, and they're hearing about it from the business community now that they're back home, the Sarasota Herald-Tribuneeditorial board says.

If lawmakers want what is best for the state and its people, they'll agree to a do-over, a special session for Medicaid expansion, the editorial says. As theHerald-Tribune reported last week, a few lawmakers are beginning to make just such a suggestion.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
