Florida Hospital DeLand will continue construction on a $3.5 million lab after human remains were discovered in unmarked graves, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.
The burial site is thought to contain bodies from residents of a nearby “poor farm,” a place where indigent elderly and disabled residents lived and worked between the 1890s and 1950s, according to the News-Journal.
Officials from the hospital offered to donate a new site for the remains to be reburied, the News-Journal reports, but the state will decide what happens next.
