A mother who doesn’t want her 3-year-old son circumcised is appealing a judge’s order allowing the procedure, WPEC-Ch. 12 reports.
Dennis Nebus, the boy’s father, and Heather Hironimus have battled over the procedure since soon after the boy was born. The parents, who never married, agreed to the procedure in a signed custody agreement, but Hironimus changed her mind.
Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Dana Gillen issued an order last week allowing the circumcision, citing pediatric urologists testimony that while not medically necessary, circumcision can reduce the risks of penile cancer and HIV infection, WPEC reports.
On Wednesday, Hironimus was awarded a stay by a higher court so she can appeal that ruling, according to WPEC.
