Docs Talk for Reduced Prison Time

Several doctors convicted in a $40-million pill mill case saw their sentences reduced substantially this week in exchange for testifying against two alleged co-conspirators: Drs. Cynthia Cadet and Joseph Castronuovo, the Palm Beach Post reports.  The oxycodone network is blamed for the deaths of 50 patients.

In a separate case, three more Miami men have been added to a list of about 40 defendants accused of Medicare fraud at a now-closed mental health clinic, the Miami Herald reports. Dozens of former employees of Miami-based American Therapeutic Corp. already have been convicted in the $190-million scam.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
