Survey: 8% of Kids Tried Suicide

A new study of Central Florida children’s health found that more than 8% of Orange County high-schoolers said they had attempted suicide.

The survey will be presented today at a conference aimed at improving children’s health, education, and safety, according to the Orlando Sentinel.  The survey, conducted by Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, found homicide was the third-leading cause of death for young children.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
