Medical College CEO Indicted

Ernesto Perez, president and CEO of Dade Medical College, has been indicted on charges of providing false information to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement when the agency was vetting him for a position on the state Commission on Independent Education, the Miami New Times reports. Perez, when he was a member of a rock group, was convicted of statutory rape and served six months in jail more than 20 years ago in Wisconsin. Dade Medical College is a private, for-profit school that trains nurses, medical technicians, billing coders and others in the allied health professions.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
