The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an alert for patients and health care providers, asking them to quarantine nasal-irrigation solutions from The Compounding Shop in St. Petersburg. That pharmacy has had prior problems with sterile products.
FDA found a bottle of the budesonide solution contaminated with a white floating material that turned out to be a fungus. The agency is concerned that other bottles may be similarly contaminated.
The agency website says it is unaware of anyone being harmed by the solution.
