The University of Florida program that provides health insurance to low-income children with special health needs will get $18 million in state funding to expand coverage, UF announced. Pediatric Integrated Care System, also known as Ped-I-Care, will double the number of counties it serves with the Florida Department of Health grant.
Meanwhile, Moffitt Cancer Center has a new medical director for the DeBartolo Family Personalized Medicine Institute, Tampa Bay Business Journal reports. Dr. Howard McLeod, an expert on how a patient’s genetic code affects cancer treatment, will be Moffitt's first cancer research endowed chair. He is coming from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Institute for Pharmacogenomics and Individualized Therapy, a program he founded.
