After an 89-year-old Clearwater man broke his hip on the first night of a cruise, getting the proper care turned into an ordeal that left him and his wife Jill stranded in Turkey, ABC News reports. They had purchased insurance through Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, which required the crew to stabilize Dodge and get him to the nearest hospital. They did that -- but according to the couple, no one at the small hospital where they were taken spoke English. A local tour guide contacted by the Melkonians’ travel agency helped them, and now U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-FL, is on the case.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
