While Senate President Don Gaetz tries to play peacemaker over Medicaid funds, asThe Florida Current reports, a lower-profile debate that requires legislators to study up on biology and economics is playing out in health-policy committees.

That debate, which concerns whether “biosimilar” versions of biologic drugs should be treated as generics,  is consuming a lot of time on health-policy committees this session, and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune’s Capitol Bureau Chief Lloyd Dunkelberger explains it.

An issue important to cancer patients -- coverage for chemo in pill form rather than just IVs -- passed the Senate unanimously on Friday but may be stalled in the House Health and Human Services Committee, the Times/Herald Tallahassee Bureau reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
