This November, Florida voters will have a say on a constitutional amendment allowing the use of medical marijuana.  In the meantime, truths, half-truths, and outright falsehoods have been swirling around in the news, according to the Tampa Bay Times(paywall alert).

PolitiFactand  PunditFact have been tackling the claims, pointing out what’s true and what isn’t. Among the claims they look at:

  • It makes people violent killers (no evidence for that).
  • It’s more potent than it used to be (true).
  • It’s not addictive (for a small minority of users, it  may be).
Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
