State health officials Wednesday reported six more local cases of the mosquito-borne Zikavirus, bringing to 217 the number of transmissions of the disease in Florida.
Five of the new cases involved Miami-Dade County residents, while one involved a person from out of state. The Florida Department of Health said it was investigating to determine where exposure to the virus occurred.
Also, the department reported one new case involving a Florida resident who had traveled to Miami-Dade County and to an area outside Florida where widespread Zika transmission has occurred. It said the exact location of where the person was exposed to Zika is "inconclusive."
In all, Florida has had 1,144 reported cases of Zika, with 915 stemming from people who brought the virus into the state after being infected elsewhere.
