Doc Arrested, Traded for Drugs, Cash

Dr. Gregory Gooden of Winter Haven was arrested Thursday on charges he wrote prescriptions for pain pills in exchange for methamphetamine and cash, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Witnesses told the Polk County Sheriff’s Office that Gooden also smoked marijuana and drank alcohol with patients. He has been registered as a doctor specializing in cardiology since 1987, but said at the time of his arrest he is no longer practicing, according to the Sentinel.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
