Woman Sets Record in IVF Birth

An Orlando woman has become the oldest woman to give birth through in vitro fertilization by using her own fresh biological eggs, The Orlando Sentinel reports.

Belinda Slaughter, 46, wasn’t trying to set a record when she delivered her son last September.  While many older women have given birth to babies conceived in vitro, even into their 60s, those eggs were either donor eggs or frozen embryos from when the women were younger.

Slaughter’s delivery made history because her eggs were her own and fresh, rather than donor eggs or frozen embryos.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
