Sexual Predator Bills Move Forward

A series of bills that will strengthen Florida’s sexual predator laws are moving forward in the Florida Legislature with bipartisan support, the News Service of Florida reports. The House Criminal Justice Subcommittee, as well as two House and two Senate panels, each passed bills dealing with sexual predators and sex crimes against children. Nearly 600 sexually violent predators released from prison have been convicted of new sex crimes, prompting political leaders to focus on the problem.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
