Torn Nerve Regrown, Used in Repair

When Danielle Press tangled with a boat propeller, she was taken to Jackson Memorial’s Ryder Trauma Center, where the first concern was saving her life.

After she was stable, as CBS Miami reports, neurosurgeons turned their attention to her leg, which had lost sensation when the sciatic nerve was cut.

At a press conference Tuesday, they described the procedure they used to regrow and repair the nerve.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
