The Florida Department of Environmental Protection says it’s going to give bonuses to employees who process permits quickly and do well on other performance measures, the Florida Current reports. But that’s drawing criticism from the the union that represents state employees, since the bonuses will come from money that was saved through layoffs and staff reductions. State Rep. Mark Pafford, D-West Palm Beach, also worries that the policy that encourages faster permits might be bad for the environment.
