Paralysis Project Begins Cell Transplants

Researchers at the University of Miami say the first recipient of a nerve-tissue transplant has passed 30 days without complications, and they are looking for more patients to enroll in the clinical trial, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. The tough part is that they have to begin the Schwann cell transplant within five days of injury, and they’re trying to get the word out. This clinical trial is aimed at making sure such transplants are safe and pain-free.
