Is Synthetic Drug Behind Hospital Rampage?

Jan 8, 2014

Police are wondering if a 20-year-old man who shot himself and died at Halifax Health Medical Center had used a popular synthetic narcotic before his rampage, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports. An almost-empty bottle labeled  “Molly Water” was found in the car of Jonathan Rodriguez-Jeff, who police say shot himself in the head in front of a nurse and her Alzheimer’s patient.

Police say he also tried to force two nurses into a sex act and blasted car and building windows with a tactical shotgun.

Molly is a mood-altering drug also known as MDMA or ecstasy, and is popular in the club drug scene.

Toxicology reports are needed before linking Rodriguez-Jeff’s actions to the drug. Police did tell the News-Journal that the part-time member of the Army National Guard was at a local nightclub hours before he died.
