Heiress Gives Clinic $30M

Longtime patient Pauline Braathen has made a gift of $30 million to Cleveland Clinic Florida, the largest gift in the organization’s 25-year history, according to apress release. Braathen’s donation will fund the construction of a five-story, 143,000 square foot building on the Weston campus that will house the cancer center and an expanded neurological center.

Ms. Braathen, a former fashion model and widow of a Norwegian businessman, lives on a private apartment ship called "The World." She returns to South Florida periodically for health care.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
