Winter Park Memorial Hospital is planning an expansion.

The hospital will start construction this winter on an $85 million new bed tower. It will add 80 rooms and a new lobby, and the hospital has the ability to add another tower in the future.

The new tower is expected to be finished in 2018.

The five-story, Mediterranean-inspired pavilion will be named for philanthropists Tony and Sonja Nicholson

The Nicholson Pavilion expansion will allow the hospital to convert the majority of its existing rooms into private patient rooms. The new pavilion space will include private beds for orthopaedic care as well as other surgical and medical services.

When completed, it will offer 160 private rooms and bathrooms.
