The University of Central Florida Board of Trustees on Monday approved a proposal related to a joint venture with the HCA health-care company to add a teaching hospital adjacent to the university's College of Medicine.
Trustees approved a "public-private partnership" proposal that will go to the state university system's Board of Governors for approval. The university, through a direct-support organization, and HCA plan to partner on a 100-bed teaching hospital at UCF's Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona.
Under the plan, HCA would pay for building the hospital and would manage it, while the university would provide the land, academic expertise and the UCF brand.
An application also was submitted this month to the state Agency for Health Care Administration for a "certificate of need" — a crucial regulatory approval needed for building hospitals.
