Mosquito control officials in northeast Florida are proposing the construction of a wind tunnel to help attract researchers and grant funding.
The St. Augustine Record reports that the proposed $4.6 million budget for the Anastasia Mosquito Control District includes $80,000 for an 800-square-foot wind tunnel.
The project would be funded largely by a millage rate increase currently on the table.
Commissioner Catherine Brandhorst said the wind tunnel would attract and capture mosquitoes to test.
The district also aims to participate in a World Health Organization program that coordinates evaluations of pesticides.
