Hospitals Want More End-of-Life Directives

Six Northeast Florida hospital systems are meeting Tuesday to review a pilot program designed to increase the number of people people getting advanced care directives, the Florida Times-Union reports.

Only 14 percent of patients who die in the care of Jacksonville hospitals have those plans. Honoring Choices Florida is designed to help patients discuss and document their health care wants and needs should they be faced with serious, life-limiting or life-threatening illness, according to the Times-Union.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
