Doc Returns to Practice After Prison Stint

Broward County ophthalmologist Alan Mendelsohn has been given back his medical license following his release from prison, the Miami Herald reports.

Mendelsohn served 30 months in a federal prison for his part in a political corruption case, and failing to report $700,000 in income, according to the Herald.  Mendelsohn's license was suspended in August 2011 in connection with the financial charges.

Mendelsohn’s lawyer told the Herald the ophthalmologist expects to return to his practice later this week.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
