Some abortions that now are legal could be barred under a bill headed to the Senate floor after narrowly passing the Senate Rules Committee on Monday, the News Service of Florida reports.
The so-called "Viability Bill" (SB 918) requires a doctor to determine whether a fetus could survive outside the womb with medical support, and if the answer is yes, cancel the abortion.
Florida’s abortion law now bars abortions in the third trimester of pregnancy; some preemies survive in ICU if born after 19 or 20 weeks of gestation.
