Shake-up at Orlando Cancer Center

Orlando Health announced Monday that University of Florida Health will step into the cancer partnership it has had with MD Anderson when the Texas institute's contract expires at the end of January.

Much will remain the same, including the administration. Dr. Mark Roh, who is currently president of MD Anderson-Orlando, will be president of UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health, a press release said. And patients will continue to see the same physicians, it said.

A local foundation, Dr. Phillips Charities, has pledged $1.5 million to ramp up "personalized cancer care" at the renamed program. That approach uses the genetic information from a patient's tumor to plan the treatment strategy.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
