Meningitis Suspected in 4-Year-Old’s Death

Health officials suspect bacterial meningitis killed a 4-year-old Pasco County boy, the Tampa Tribune reports. Results from a lab test by the county health department are expected today.  In the Tampa Bay Times, Amonti Saunders’ mother describes the last 15 hours of her son’s life, as he came down with a burning fever at home, then died in a trauma center (paywall alert). As a precaution, the preschool that the boy attended was closed  for disinfection. Vaccines have been recommended for anyone who came in contact with him.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
