Rep. Henry "Trey" Radel, a Tea Party Republican from Naples, checked into an addiction treatment center Thursday afternoon, shortly after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine and saying he will take a leave of absence from Congress.

NBC Miami reports that Radel is being treated at a Naples branch of the Hazelden treatment center. Before entering, Radel said at a press conference that he has struggled with alcohol and drug abuse "off and on for years."

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
