Animal Stories Strange, Even for FL

Miami police are trying to find out who chopped up pieces of a horse and left them in a suburban driveway, the Miami Herald reports. Officials from South Florida Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said illegal horse slaughter isn’t uncommon in Miami-Dade, but said this public display is unusual.

In a separate case, a 64-year-old school bus driver is being held on more than $300,000 bond on more than 100 animal cruelty charges after cops raided her Lake Worth home in December, the Palm Beach Post reports. The Palm Beach County State Attorney’s animal cruelty prosecutor described a horrific scene: some of the cats were missing eyeballs or parts of their tails.

Authorities who visited Diane Carle about a dozen times say she would repeatedly agree to reduce the number of cats in her home, but the animals kept multiplying. Most of the 137 cats confiscated by animal welfare authorities were sick, and all but one had to be euthanized.
