Contracts that allowed vendors to bill exorbitantly high prices, including $2,000 for a phone call, will be a thing of the past at the Division of Blind Services under the agency’s new director, the Tampa Bay Times reports. A Times story in November revealed the agency severely overpaid for no-bid contracts from a few select vendors to provide services for the blind. The new rules are designed to open up the bidding process to anyone, and are expected to lower costs to the state.
