Health Management Associates Inc., a Naples-based hospital chain that owns about two dozen hospitals in Florida, announced it has hired high-profile advisers in an attempt to prevent a hostile takeover by its largest shareholder.
Bloomberg News reports that HMA hired Morgan Stanley and Weil, Gotshal & Manges to help prevent Glenview Capital Management from increasing its HMA shares from 14.6 percent to 25 percent.
HMA’s stock is soaring on rumors of the buyout.
