A bill that would have allowed the city of Tampa to increase its water supply has dried up in the state legislature. Some feared it would have reignited the area's water wars.

After years of debate, state regulators have approved a water sharing plan for the Suwannee and St Johns River basins. But conservationists argue the deal doesn’t do enough to protect Florida’s natural resources.

Researchers say tiny shreds of plastic, known as “microplastics,” have been building up in Tampa Bay, threatening marine life, according to the Tampa Bay Times. 

The microplastics can collect and concentrate toxins that can sicken any marine life that consumes the shreds.
