Attorney General Ashley Moody’s office Tuesday urged the Florida Supreme Court to reject an appeal in a battle about the city of Coral Gables’ attempt to ban the use of Styrofoam food containers.

There will be no more Styrofoam allowed at Miami-Dade County beaches, marinas or parks.

The ban on polystyrene products, which skirts state law preventing municipalities from regulating the material outside their own properties, starts July 1.

Some Duval County high school students are asking the school district to stop using Styrofoam in cafeterias.

The environmentally-conscious teens are collecting petition signatures, urging the district to replace foam lunch trays with ones made from stainless steel.
