Democrats and gun-control advocates took aim Friday at Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam after the Tampa Bay Times reported that a former employee of Putnam’s agency failed for more than a year to conduct national background checks on applications for concealed weapons licenses.

Fire arms purchases are growing. That’s according to a report from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Adam Putnam says he expects to see that trend continue. 

House Aims To Approve Open-Carry Bill

The Florida House is expected to vote Wednesday to allow people with concealed-weapons licenses to openly carry sidearms in most public places.
 
And in preparing the bill late Tuesday for a final vote, the House voted 72-43 to tack on an amendment that would let lawmakers with concealed-carry licenses pack heat during legislative meetings and on the House floor.

Florida State University football fans who go to the game this weekend can bring their guns — if they have a concealed weapons permit and they keep them locked in their cars, the school said Wednesday, the day after being sued for a policy that bans guns on campus.

Hundreds of people waited in long lines to attend a gun show at the Central Florida Fairgrounds last weekend, the Orlando Sentinel reports. The biggest seller at the gun show was the pricey AR-15 rifle, the weapon used in the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, according to the Sentinel.

Florida has issued more concealed weapons permits than any other state, and it’s ready to hand out the one that will bring the total to 1 million, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Agriculture Secretary Adam Putnam made the announcement with a press conference, flanked by American flags.

"I've been asked about our licensing responsibilities as much as any other topic," Putnam told the Times.
