Business from cannabis is growing fast in Florida; some of it regulated tightly, and some of it without rules. But all of it comes with cash that the banking industry is reluctant to touch.

The first legal industrial hemp seeds in decades are growing now in South Florida soil.

CBD is showing up in ice cream, gummy bears and cocktails, but the state says the products are illegal.

Gummy bears, oils, cocktails, ice cream ... Products with CBD in them have practically become ubiquitous in South Florida. Thirty U.S. states have enacted medical cannabis laws, and all but one of them include cancer in the list of conditions allowed. Such laws give cancer patients across the country access to a substance that remains illegal under federal law.

It's marketed as a compound that can help relieve anxiety — and, perhaps, help ease aches and pains, too.

The Senate voted 36-3 to pass the legislation, which supporters said could help sick children who have no other hope. It now goes to the House for consideration.

“This is the last resort for some folks, for their children,” said Sen. Arthenia Joyner, D-Tampa. “We have a responsibility to do what we can to alleviate the suffering and pain of children.”

You may expect a lecture at cannabis college to sound like a scene from the stoner movie Half Baked.

Instead, it sounds like a lot of talk about light bulb wattage and ducting systems.

Major buzz kill.
